MANO MANI, c’est qui ?
La céramiste Julie Boucherat a fondé MANO MANI en 2019, qu’elle a modelé comme un espace de création transversal et poétique. MANO MANI a pour vocation de proposer un ensemble de pièces fonctionnelles et d’objets uniques, sensibles et accessibles.
En parallèle, Julie Boucherat mène un travail artistique qu’elle présente à l’occasion de diverses expositions.
Biographie.
Née à Nice en 1987, Julie Boucherat vit et travaille à Bayonne, au Pays-Basque. Ex-rédactrice-en-chef du magazine MilK Decoration, Julie Boucherat revient à ses origines en 2016, celles de l'argile, matériau vivant auquel elle a été initiée dès son plus jeune âge par sa mère, sculptrice. De formation autodidacte, Julie réalise régulièrement des stages auprès de maîtres potiers, spécialement Japonais - Rizü Takahashi, Yoh Tanimoto… pour intégrer de nouvelles techniques de façonnage, de décor et de cuisson à son travail. Aujourd’hui, son territoire, à la nature foisonnante et empreint de mythes et de traditions, représente une source inépuisable d'inspiration.
Pratique.
Artiste céramiste, Julie Boucherat imagine et façonne des pièces organiques en grès aux lignes brutes, aux formes attachantes, aux riches textures et imprimés, et utilise des émaux issus de recherches personnelles. Elle oriente son travail vers une démarche de production locale - glanage d’argile sauvage - et des méthode de cuissons variées, notamment au bois, en four Anagama.
Démarche artistique.
La démarche artistique de Julie Boucherat est spontanée et fortement influencée par le contexte. C'est spécifiquement à l'occasion d'expositions qu’elle exprime la diversité de son approche et illustre son goût pour la scénographie et la création atmosphérique, en complément de son travail de céramiste. Elle aime croiser les arts en s'entourant d'artistes aux pratiques diverses (vidéo, musique, arts de la scène...) afin de proposer au public une expérience globale, empreinte de poésie.

Biography.
Born in 1987 in Nice, France, Julie Boucherat lives and works in Bayonne, in the Basque Country. Ex-editor-in-chief of the magazine MilK Decoration, Boucherat returns to her origins in 2016, those of clay, a living material she was introduced from an early age by her mother, a sculptor. Self-taught, Julie regularly follows workshops with master potters, especially Japanese - Rizü Takahashi, Yoh Tanimoto... to integrate new shaping, decorating and firing techniques into her work. Today, her territory, abundant in nature, myths and traditions, represents an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Practise.
Ceramic artist, she imagines and shapes organic stoneware pieces with raw lines, endearing shapes, rich patterns and textures, and uses glazes resulting from personal research. She orients her work towards a local production approach - wild clay - and varied cooking methods, notably with wood, in Anagama kiln.
Artistic approach.
Boucherat's artistic approach is spontaneous and strongly influenced by the context. It is specifically on the occasion of exhibitions that she expresses the diversity of her approach and illustrates her taste for scenography and atmospheric creation, in addition to her work as a ceramist. She likes to cross the arts by surrounding herself with artists with various practices (video, music, performing arts...) in order to offer the public a global experience, imbued with poetry.
